Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister
Pretty good! For any of you who got in on the Wicked craze, this book is by the same author. I tried to read Wicked, and I couldn't take it. I hated that book. I gave it the standard 100 pages, even a little more, and just couldn't read it. So, I was wary to try this book out.
This book was so much better! To me it was like someone else wrote it. It is about Cinderella--a retelling of this fairy tale. You don't really notice it's that story for a while though. The writing was fair (compared to Wicked, excellent) and the story was unique. There were a few things that weren't explained well enough for my taste, but it didn't take away from the book too much. Decent read!

My wife couldn't make it past 100 pages of Wicked either. I guess I am too much of an optimist, because not only did I plod through Wicked, I read Son of a Witch. It was maybe 1/2 a star better than Wicked, only because the twist at the end is the twist I was hoping for the whole story. I am not a Gregory Maguire fan, but might check out this book if it is better written.
